You've likely heard of LinkedIN™, the business-oriented social networking website that many people use to keep in contact with business associates, colleagues, former colleagues, alumni, and prospective colleagues. In Academia, LinkedIN has recently been explored as a tool for Collaborative learning:-Recently in areas that are newly emerging e.g. Contemplative Pedagogy.-TEL: Community of Practice: For Academics it is a tool for support and develops practical work.-Academics share Moodle objects/wiki’s/links to videos. -If effectively used, offers a way to enhance student and practitioners learning experiences, deepens levels of learners engagement and collaboration within digital learning environments.What is LinkedIN ?

-A Jobs network
-Collaborative space for learning and practice: Participate in discussion Forums (pertinent to user interest)

LinkedIN- Collaborative Learning - Constructivism
  • We learn by doing, Piaget 1950
  • We learn by making, Papert 1960.
Constructivism – A theory based on people constructing thier own understanding and Knowledge of the world, through experiencing things and reflecting on their experiences. 
Definition: “An approach to learning in which learners are provided the opportunity to construct their own sense of what is being learned by building internal connection or relationship among the ideas and facts being taught”, Borich and Tombari (1997).

  • LinkedIN Communities of Practice and Personal Learning Networks (PLN)
  • Environment for Personal learning - within a collaborative environment.
  • Online Learning Communities – online interaction.

Learning Theories: Constructivism- Collaborative Learning:
As a TEL tool, offers the opportunity for powerful information sharing and ease of collaboration.
The very process of collaboration leads to a Darwinian style “survival of the fittest” content within the LinkedIN community.


It carries the potential of complementing, improving and adding new collaborative dimensions to the current HE learning and research services.

LinkedIN can assist  your professional brand through the sharing of knowledge, and experience that will enhance your LinkedIN Profile and in doing so build your business/teaching portfolio.

A collaborative space to contribute examples from your own experience/within your practice/work environments. 
It is an opportunity for nurturing critical reflection and discussion skills among learners – offer another step than traditional classroom interaction
